Clearwater – “the adventure starts here”!

Clearwater is surrounded by three pristine rivers, lofty mountains, the entrance way to the world renown Wells Gray Provincial Park all centered around beautiful Dutch Lake. The area offers an abundance of outdoor experiences no matter what season of the year. The greatest asset of our community are the people, they care, look out for one another and still remember that people have names. I hope that you enjoy visiting the website, come for a visit and maybe stay for a lifetime.

Barry Banford

Barry Banford / Councillor

My name is Barry Banford and I have been a Councillor for the District of Clearwater since 2011. I have lived and worked in Clearwater since 1998 and with my family enjoy the natural beauty of our valley. I have been involved with the Community Resource Center Board, Clearwater Improvement District, North Thompson Communities Foundation Board and currently your District Council. This experience has given me an understanding of many aspects of our community. The last four years as one of your Councillors has been exciting for me and I have learned a lot about local government and how it works. My desire is still to make Clearwater a great place to live, work, retire and do business. I promise to continue reviewing all the information presented to council so that informed decisions can be made. In addition, I feel we need to attract new businesses to Clearwater to diversify our tax base and carefully manage our spending. The people you elect should serve you and bring your concerns to council. I am honored to continue to serve you.

Dennis Greffard

Dennis Greffard / Councillor

I am a lifelong Clearwater resident who is passionate about the place, the people and the politics of the North Thompson. As a local small business owner on several counts, I am personally invested in seeing the area grow and prosper. Carrying the torch of the family business, I believe in fostering an economic climate conducive to entrepreneurship and also intent on ensuring positive recreational options in Clearwater. I am currently the president of the Clearwater Ski Club, where I co-spearheaded the Clearwater Disc Golf Course, and have been a past volunteer for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited. I studied at Thompson Rivers University in Water Treatment Technology and at British Columbia On Site Sewage Association in Wastewater Treatment and Maintenance. My true devotion is my family, which includes a daughter and two sons, also born and raised in Clearwater, B.C. I enjoy being on Council since 2014 and am currently the Chair for the Finance& Audit Committee of the Whole, the Council representative on the Joint Services Committee (a joint committee of District representatives and Thompson Nicola Regional District Area “A”).

Kjenstad Ken

Ken Kjenstad / Councillor

I am a retired businessman and have lived in Clearwater since 1972. Married with three children and six grand children. My community involvement has been as Chair of the Hospital Board, the Regional Health Board, Chamber of Commerce and have been on the Executive and an official for Minor hockey and Minor ball. Elected to the District’s first council and have served for eight years. It is important to work with all members of our community to enhance the many programs and facilities we have been able to achieve. To be a team member, work towards affordable housing, and care for our seniors. We must work towards being fiscally responsible, do important work on a sustainable water system and infrastructure improvements. I would be honoured to serve on your council.

Sim Shelley

Shelley Sim / Councillor

She represents Council on a number of boards and advisory committees and serves the rural communities of Clearwater, Area A and Area O as a School Board Trustee for District 73. Cited as an active and engaged community member, Shelley volunteers on a number of boards in the North Thompson Valley and has been very active within the schools and enjoyed her tenure as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce.  Currently she acts as Community Liaison for the University of Northern British Columbia and represents SD73 on the United Way Community Board.
