Winter Carnival!
Despite the fact that there was no snow for the Winter Carnival many people got out and participated in activities at the North Thompson Sportsplex as well as cross country skiing up the Management road. The weekend wrapped up with a celebration at the Ski Hill lodge. A great dinner was provided by the Clearwater Ski Clubl and many prizes were won by those who attended. Decorating the lodge were some amazing posters created by the students at Raft River Elementary School who won Olympic coin sets. The winners were Georgia Wesnoski, Cassidy Redman, Janice Lau, and Adrien Romeo.
At the dinner, 3 local residents were recognized for their contribution not only to Clearwater but for their ongoing commitment to making Canada a better place. These were:
Leslie Groulx - for her long term and continuous support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Association, Canadian Cancer Society and the BC Cancer Foundation. Leslie’s ongoing commitment to this, her influence on motivating others as well as her dedication to the community is appreciated by so many – Thank you Leslie.
Lorne Wright - has positively impacted so many different facets of our community over the years. He has volunteered many hours with the local food bank as well as provided ongoing support for the Christmas Amalgamated program. Lorne plays a very active role in organizing seniors activities and ensuring Clearwater meets the needs of our seniors. Lorne is currently a member of the Official Community Plan committee. Your dedication and volunteer time is much appreciated Lorne.
Chris Newel - has been an active member of the “Cops for Kids” fundraising initiative, training and riding hundreds (possibly thousands) of kms raising money for families with Children with critical illnesses. Chris celebrates and promotes what is “good” in Clearwater. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to Cops for Kids as well as you dedication to the community.
As you all know, these events do not happen without a leader orchestrating things from behind the scene (often going unnoticed). The person ensuring the success of this event as with many others events in our community has been Councilor Ken Kjenstad. He has put in and unbelievable number of hours conducting meetings, sending e-mails, putting materials together, getting prizes and the list goes on... A big thank you goes out to him and the many others who worked endless hours pulling things together. Go Canada, Go!
