In the past three months, Clearwater has seen some visible changes. A new Welcome Sign, new bus shelters and on March 31, the community will see the transformation of 4 beat up tennis courts, a battered basketball court and a very rough version of a skateboard park into our new Rotary Sportspark. The plan is exciting but the timeline is daunting. As of today, the countdown is on and the District of Clearwater and their contractors have 51 days to complete the project in order to comply with the funding criteria. Is it possible? Can it all come together to make this magic make over possible? This blog will track the progress and keep you updated on all that is happening.

Piles of dirt, big holes and now huge cement rings……and how exactly is this project going to transform the area into a top notch sportspark?
Well, despite the impression of being one big construction site, the community should be excited about seeing the first two key components of the transition from gangly and rough around the edges to something the whole community can enjoy and be proud of.
The bike and skateboard park crew arrived last week, armed with years of expertise. Radius, is a small company out of Comox, BC that specializes in bike and skateboard park construction has been hired as the primary contractor with subcontracts being extended on a local level.
For anyone who wants to have a look at what our bike and skateboard park will resemble, go to: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmuEbP8YNM0 and have a look at the video from New Hazelton. If that website is too much to remember, take the easy route and google YOU TUBE NEW HAZELTON SKATE BOARD PARK. This park has been used as the template and their town and the youth continue to rave about it.
The park plan documents are also attached at the bottom of this article. At the March 2ndCouncil meeting, the Field House contract was awarded to John White of Tiny Builders. He broke out tools and crews at the end of the week and will be working furiously to meet the March 31st deadline.
With the warm temperatures, spring is definitely in the air and it’s been good to see a number of youth on bikes and carrying skateboards in tow. The next phase of Rotary Sportspark will be the new tennis courts and basketball courts. The look and change that Rotary Sportspark will have on the community will be exciting. The fieldhouse will have washrooms and equipment storage capacity and with soccer season just around the corner, both of these features will be well used for sure!
A mere month to go – think positive for continued good weather! |
