2022 BC Assessment Notice Information

2022-01-05 – 2022 Assessment Notices were mailed to property owners during the first week of January. Assessments are also available online at www.bcassessment.ca.

The property assessments are based on market values as of July 1, 2021. When determining the assessed value, the appraisers considers your property’s unique characteristics, including location of the home, view from the home, size and age of the home, garages, carports, decks, pool, etc. and comparable sales prices and other real estate market information.

-If you feel your property assessment is incorrect, contact BC Assessment to discuss your assessment. BC Assessment may be able to resolve your concerns. If the issues are not resolved, the first level of appeal of a property assessment is to the Property -Assessment Review Panel (“PARP”). The deadline to file a notice of complaint (appeal) to the Property Assessment Review Panel is January 31, 2022.

The BC Assessment website offers a lot of additional information e.g. the assessment process, the option to update your property information and learn about the appeals process.

BC Assessment is an independent, provincial crown corporation, accountable to the Government of BC. Their responsibility is to determine the market value of land and improvements and enter the values on the Assessment Roll.

The assessed value is then used to calculate your property taxes. Property Tax Notices will be mailed out in June and are due beginning of July.
