Press Release: Council & CUPE Local 900 ratify Collective Agreement

COUNCIL & CUPE LOCAL 900 RATIFY COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

A Memorandum of Agreement between CUPE Local 900 and the District of Clearwater has been ratified. The five (5) year agreement covering January 2020 to December 2024 includes wage increases of 2.0% respectively per year; the contract includes minor language refinements.

“We are pleased to complete a five-year deal, taking into consideration budget constraints, this creates stability in our budget. This agreement is in line with recent union settlements across our neighbouring jurisdictions,” stated Mayor Merlin Blackwell. “The District has an excellent working relationship with its employees.”

“We are happy with the productive and cooperative professional working relationship with the District, with the end result being a ratified Collective Agreement that will ensure good quality public service for the citizens of Clearwater”, stated Carmen Sullivan President of CUPE Local 900.

“The CUPE Agreement expired on December 31, 2019, negotiations went very well. This process has been very positive from the outset. Our employees provide vital services on a consistent basis to the residents of Clearwater.” stated Leslie Groulx, Chief Administrative Officer, “I believe both parties are satisfied with the outcome which is fair and equitable for both the employer and the employees.”

CUPE Local 900 represents approximately 9.65 full time (FTE’) members (including seasonal workers), who provide a wide variety of municipal services, including but not limited to the maintenance of water and sewer, cemetery, facilities, recreation, arena, motor vehicle/ICBC and administration.
