10-16-2025 – Fire Restriction Update
The Kamloops Fire Centre has lifted (rescinded) the Category 2 and Category 3 open fire prohibitions, effective October 17, 2025 at noon, which means that open burning is now permitted in the Clearwater area, as long as it follows local rules and safe burning practices.
What This Means for Clearwater Residents
Effective immediately, the following activities are now permitted within the Kamloops Fire Centre region, including the Clearwater area:
- Category 2 open fires – multiple piles of material each smaller than 2 metres high by 3 metres wide, or grass burning over an area less than 0.2 hectares.
- Category 3 open fires – larger piles of material, windrows, or broadcast burns.
- Use fireworks, sky lanterns, and binary exploding targets, where permitted.
Safety First
Even though restrictions have been lifted, fire danger remains a concern in some areas. We urge all residents to practice extreme caution and follow these safe burning guidelines:
- Always have enough people, water, and tools on site to control your fire.
- Never burn in windy conditions.
- Establish a fire guard around your burn site by clearing flammable debris.
- Stay with your fire until it is fully extinguished and cold to the touch.
