2024-07-16 — The District of Clearwater is pleased to announce the appointment of Chance Breckenridge as our new FireSmart Coordinator, effective immediately.

Chance brings over 10 years of experience in both wildland and structural firefighting. He has served as a crew leader for various wildfire events. His background in forestry includes developing and overseeing numerous wildfire fuel treatment projects and conducting FireSmart and wildfire risk assessments in municipalities, private homes, and industries.

Chance is a provincially recognized instructor of the S100/185 wildfire courses, having delivered in-house wildfire training to various agencies, including fire departments, utility companies, and First Nations communities. Chance is certified both as a Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) and Wildfire Mitigation Specialist.

Originally educated in psychology, Chance found his true calling in forestry and fire services. He has continually enhanced his skills through relevant courses and certifications, with a focus on improving fire protection services. His motto, “More tools for the toolbox,” reflects his dedication to lifelong learning and professional growth.

Chance is deeply committed to the community of Clearwater, having been an active member of the Clearwater Fire Department since 2010. He values the strong connections he has built within the community, which he believes are crucial for his new role as FireSmart Coordinator.

In this position, Chance aims to educate and engage the community on FireSmart principles, conduct FireSmart Assessments, identify areas of risk, and collaborate with First Responders and community members. His goal is to enhance community preparedness, awareness, and resilience against wildfires. He looks forward to working closely with local First Nations, regional districts, neighboring fire departments, and other stakeholders to make Clearwater safer.

Please join us in welcoming Chance Breckenridge to the District of Clearwater and supporting him in his mission to implement a successful FireSmart program.
