Public invited to review proposed BC Building Code changes

2023-05-19 — The Province of BC is looking for public input and comment on a number of proposed changes to the BC Building Code. These changes are available for comment from May 18, 2023, to June 15, 2023. BC-specific code changes are typically open to public review before they are finalized.

This technical review is seeking comments on the proposed changes that are unique to the BC Codes as well as updates to align to BC Codes with the National Model Codes (2020).

For anyone who might wish to provide input in another way, the province has provided a Word survey which can be emailed to BSSB.public.review@gov.bc.ca or you can call 250-387-3133.

Feedback provided before June 15, 2023, will be used to inform any needed changes before finalization of these codes. The next BC Codes are anticipated to be available in 2023, with an effective date late in 2023.

  • Accessibility plain language summary
  • Combustible penetrations
  • Earthquake design
  • Overheating
  • Radon
  • Steel Storage racking
  • Ventilation
  • Windows, doors, skylights
