Weyerhaeuser Park: Dog Park & Bike Park Update #1

2025-07-23 – The results of the public engagement related to the Dog Park and the Bike Park were reported back to Council at the July 8th District Council meeting. The engagement consisted of letters to the immediate park residential neighbours, a public open house at the park, and a survey that was used to tabulate the responses. In total there were 206 survey responses. Handwritten surveys were included with the electronic results.

Survey Results
In favour of Dog Park 72%
In favour of Bike Park 88%

Next Steps
Due to the positive response to both of the proposals, Council approved moving to the detailed design phase in this process. Final project approval will not be considered until this due diligence phase is completed, this includes:
• Detailed design plans for both proposed uses
• A report on how many trees will need to be removed
• Cost estimates for construction of these features
• Projections of ongoing maintenance costs
• An estimate of community contributions towards these projects

Community Contributions
The desire for a dog park is a long-standing issue in Clearwater, the District is working in partnership with the Rotary Club. This proposal is being supported by the Rotary Club as part of their long tradition of supporting community projects. If you want more information on how to get involved with, or support this project, contact Rotary Club members Larissa Hadley at 250-674-1514 or Dwayne Thiessen at 250-674-8619.
The Bike Park proposal was brought forward by a large group of local cycling enthusiasts. Recently District staff met with local proponents and a Bike Park designer, Contour Trails. Once the design and preliminary cost estimates are completed, they will come back to Council for consideration. This will also be a project with lots of opportunities for community involvement and support.
