FireSmart & Fire Department Updates 

  • Old North Thompson Highway: Road right-of-way clearing is underway. 
  • Info Centre: Mitigation and vegetation management work continues. 

Fire Prevention Week — October 5–11, 2025
Theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety” — Lithium Batteries in Your Home 

Activities:

  • Raft River Elementary visit — Fire Safety Talk & Show and Tell for Grade 4 students.
  • Fire Department Open House — Thursday, October 9 | 6:00–9:00 PM | Clearwater Fire Station
    • “Try It Out” Stations: Fire Extinguishers & Fire Escape Planning 
    • Battery Safety Talk 

Upcoming Community Events 

  • Friday October 10th Cultural Food Workshop: Come and learn how to make chapati! Chapati is an unleavened flatbread originating from the Indian subcontinent and is a staple in India, East Africa, and the Caribbean.  In Kenya, it is traditionally enjoyed with a side of beef stew.   • Halloween Fireworks — details coming soon. 
  • Crus’n Treat — family-friendly trick-or-treating event. 
  • Youth & Adult Fall Aikido Session with Clearwater Aikikai and Mindful Yoga with Sylvia Arduini are both back in full swing down at the Wellness Studio (132 Clearwater Station Rd). Register online or in person at the DOC front desk.   
  • This coming weekend we have a full weekend of home hockey games against Lillooet
  • Drop in sports are ramping up again! (*punch cards available at the front desk at the DOC or $2.00 drop-in)  
    • Indoor evening pickleball is every Sunday, Wed and Friday night from 6:30-8:30pm at the DLCC 
    • Midday Indoor pickleball starts on Tuesday October 14th each Tuesday and Thursday from 12-2pm at the DLCC  
    • Badminton starts Wednesday October 15th each Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 – 9:30pm at the Clearwater Secondary School gymnasium. Some dates may be cancelled due to afterschool sporting events – we will update as they come up! 
    • Indoor walking is back up and available for people to utilize at Clearwater Secondary School every Tuesday and Thursday 3:30-4:30pm until the end of the school year! 

Public Works 

  • Crews will be removing remaining traffic delineators throughout the District in preparation for snow removal. 
  • Dunn Lake Road Maintenance work which will includes ditching and adding gravel — tentative start date October 20  

OCP Update:  

After an initial round of community engagement, the OCP Update team will present Draft Directions for Clearwater’s new Official Community Plan. Come see how community input is shaping the plan — and tell us if we’re on the right track.

Watercourse Bylaw | Learn about the District’s proposed Watercourse Bylaw and updates to the Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw, designed to align with Clearwater’s Integrated Stormwater Management Plan and support responsible growth.

Water Metering Program | The District is preparing to introduce water metering across the community in the coming years. Project staff will be available to explain how meters work, why they’re important, and what to expect from the phased rollout.

Dutch Lake Corridor Design | View the conceptual design drawings for improvements to the Dutch Lake area, including the boat launch and lake access, a new parking area on Lakeview Road, intersection upgrades at Old North Thompson Highway and Dutch Lake Road, and an extension of the multi-use pathway near Dutch Lake Park.

DCC Bylaw Update | An update to the proposed DCC Bylaw and rates will be available for public review.

Community Climate Action Plan | A representative from the Community Energy Association will be on hand to discuss Clearwater’s Community Climate Action Plan — an initiative focused on reducing emissions and strengthening community resilience.

Celebrating Our Dedicated Team: Staff Appreciation & Long Service Awards  

The District of Clearwater recently gathered to celebrate the incredible commitment and contributions of our team at the Staff Appreciation and Long Service Awards event. 

It was an inspiring afternoon filled with laughter, gratitude, and community spirit as we recognized employees who have dedicated many years of service to making Clearwater a wonderful place to live and work. From long-serving staff reaching milestone anniversaries to those who have gone above and beyond in their daily roles, every honouree embodies our shared values of integrity, teamwork, and service excellence. 

During the event, department managers also presented their plans for improvement within their respective areas, outlining goals and initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, collaboration, and service delivery. Their presentations reflected a forward-looking approach focused on continuous improvement and meeting the evolving needs of our community.  

Congratulations to all our long service award recipients and a big thank you to every member of our team for the passion and care you bring to your work each day.

  • Park washrooms close for the season on October 15.
  • Splash Park water feature is closed for the season.
  • Parks remain open as long as weather permits.
