The District of Clearwater is seeking motivated individuals to join our newly formed Fire Department Initial Attack (FDIA) Crew. This seasonal, volunteer-based role offers comprehensive paid training designed to equip you with essential wildfire response skills, enhancing community safety and resilience.
Training Boot Camp Schedule:
- June 10-11: S100/S185 Wildfire Suppression Training
- June 12: Communications
- June 13: Chainsaw Operations
- June 14: Driving & Equipment Handling
Additionally, participants will complete a 2-day field scenario scheduled tentatively for either June 21-22 or June 28-29.
Training Compensation:
- Participants receive a stipend of $200 per day during training (7 days total).
Operational Details:
- Seasonal Role: Operational readiness starts in June 2025.
- Compensation: $56/hour during deployment under the BC Wildfire Service Interagency Agreement.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Physically fit, capable of working in challenging outdoor conditions
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License (air brake endorsement or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Assets:
- Previous wildfire experience or training
- Chainsaw operational skills
- First Aid Certification (CPR & AED)
- Experience in radio communications or emergency services
