District of Clearwater successful in securing grant to fund age-friendly projects

2022-09-23 — The District of Clearwater is excited to announce it was successful in obtaining a grant from BC Healthy Communities Society for $15,000 to fund the Rolling Along with Your Community project, aimed at providing activities and programs for our senior community.

“We love our seniors in Clearwater! I am so excited that they will have more options to get out to places like the Farmers Market and other social spaces,” said District of Clearwater mayor Merlin Blackwell.  “After two years of COVID, this grant couldn’t come at a better time.”

This grant will fund various projects in the coming year focused on supporting our seniors and developing an age-friendly community. Ensuring older adults have access to healthy food options, attend social gatherings and medical appointments, while feeling an overall connectedness to their community is vital to fostering a community where they are supported to age-in-place and live active, socially engaged, and independent lives.

“Our community is filled with activities and services that greatly benefit our senior population,” said Wylie Bystedt, economic development officer for the District of Clearwater. “But their access to or even knowledge of those activities can be greatly improved, and we aim to do that with this grant.”

The BC Healthy Communities Society’s age-friendly grant is focused on improving community age-friendliness, a crucial step as the demographics of Canada continues to shift. This grant will assist the District of Clearwater in finding and funding a support system that will help our senior community thrive.
