2022-09-23 — The Economic Development Officer is new a position for the District of Clearwater. The position is part of the District’s Economic Development Strategy, adopted and approved by Council on Feb. 16, 2021. An amount of $170,000 was obtained through grant funding from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development under the Community Transition Recovery Strategy to implement this strategy. As per the funding breakdown, a portion was allocated to hire an EDO for its duration. To date, no project undertaken by the EDO since starting in April 2022 has been paid for with taxpayer dollars, including their salary. Funding for all projects have come from various forms of grants.
“Over the past six (6) months, I have had the pleasure of working with our skilled and capable Economic Development Officer, Wylie Bystedt, on several economic development initiatives for the betterment of Clearwater — and there are several other initiatives in the pipeline that we are actively working on. I firmly believe we have made the right hiring decision and like other members of our team, our Economic Development Officer enjoys my full support.” — John Thomas, Chief Administrative Officer, District of Clearwater
