2026-05-08 – Short-Term Rental Information Page and Application Package Now Available
The District of Clearwater has launched a new short-term rental information page to help operators, property owners, neighbours, and the public understand the local short-term rental framework.
The page includes information about eligibility, application requirements, temporary use permits, business licences, fees, operating expectations, and provincial registration requirements. It also includes links to the combined public information package, application forms, the application readiness checklist, and the full short-term rental FAQ.
A short-term rental generally means temporary sleeping accommodation provided to the public for payment for a period of less than 90 consecutive days.
Applicants should be aware that two separate District approvals may be required:
A Temporary Use Permit is a land use approval. It reviews whether the proposed short-term rental use is appropriate for the property and may consider zoning, lawful dwelling status, parking, occupancy, servicing, safety, public notice, and site-specific conditions.
A Business Licence is an operating approval. It reviews the operator and business operation, including local contact information, listing information, licence number display, and ongoing operating requirements.
A business licence does not replace a required Temporary Use Permit. A provisional business licence may be considered where a required TUP application appears complete and, after preliminary review, staff have a high level of confidence that the proposed use is a good candidate for approval while the Temporary Use Permit application is being processed.
Applicants are encouraged to review the combined package and checklist before submitting an application. A complete application helps reduce delays.
Application fees must be paid in person at the District of Clearwater office. Online payment is not available for short-term rental applications at this time.
